A 34,30 m classic wooden motor cruiser, built in 1948, with all modern comfort. Accommodation for 20 guests in 9 cabins, 8 with two, one cabin with four berths.

The Cruise

The islands visited during the cruise: Saronic Gulf: kykladenPoros, Hydra; Kyklades: Andros (visit to The Goulandris Arts Collection of Modern and Contemporary Arts), Tinos, Myconos/Delos, Naxos (wine degustation at Clos Tzanakou vineyard) , Islets of Denoussa to Kinaros, Santourin, Folegandros, Milos, Sifnos; Gulf of Euboia: The private islet-group of Petali. The cruise program is not a must. It should be understood as a wise guiding line to the unique experience you hope to gain in putting money into our hands expecting us to lead your holidays to a remarkable success. On customer's request or spontaneous decision, small abbreviations of the cruise program, like a two days stay on one island, or more often anchoring over night in bays instead of mooring in harbours can be done, dependant on the present environmental facilities.

The trip will be done the other way round according to weather conditions, starting to visite the Kyklades islands in heading for Sifnos island. Tinos island will be only headed for, when weather conditions allow it; Petali group of islands will be headed for, when heading for Tinos island was dropped.

2nd day:

122trizIn the morning a very small excursion in an only 5 km range round POROS town, giving you an impression of Greece throughout the centuries with examples from ancient Mycenaean (kings graves of kingdom of Troizen, 122dsc19251400-1150 B.C., excavation works in progress) over Classic Hellenic period (500-200 B.C.; here: spa and holy spring) to Byzantine time (400-1400 A.D.; here: ruin of monastery of the Holy Demetrios). Surrounded by a beautiful landscape, these places kept their original character, still untouched by tourist industry. In the afternoon set sails, bound for HYDRA island, on half way stop over for a swim in turquoise shallow waters. Mooring at HYDRA harbour, one of the best preserved and most picturesque little harbours of the Mediterranean. hydra_town_01Artists from all over the world stayed here, Leonard Cohen wrote his most famous songs ("Suzanne") while he lived here in the late 60es. In time for sunset, we will stroll along the coastal path and have a sundowner somewhere along, before we will sit down for supper at Stefanos Douskos' classic tavern under the big tree, where Cohen used to sit and take out his guitar in late summer nights.

3rd day:

andros_museoSet sails, bound for the island of ANDROS. We will cast anchor in the beautiful bay of Batzi und and are thus enabled to keep our natural swimming pool open over the whole night. andros_momaEarly dinner for to ketch sunset at "The Balcony of the Aegean", a tavern high up at the steep mountain slope with breath taking view on the sea and islands South of Andros. mp

Next morning we will visit the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts, a donation of one of the biggest Greek ship-owner families, as this family is of Andros origin. And as churches and monasteries are an attribute to Greece like the seagulls to the sea, we will have a look to the 9th century fortified monastery of Panachrantou. In the afternoon we will have a short sailing to the neighbour island of Tinos

4th day:

tinos_panagia_evangelistria_200707_04TINOS: Visit to the School of Fine Arts at Pyrgos, the most important institute for marble craftsmen in Greece. Besides berthing this unique school, Tinos town is a kind of Greek Lourdes, and the cathedral of the Holy Virgin Mary of Tinos is most interesting to visit. On the photo of the cathedral's interior you see just one of the thousands of votive-dedications to the Virgin Mary brought by one of the many pilgrims having asked her for help.

5th day:

mykonos

Set sails, bound for MYCONOS. 234We will cast anchor in a bay at the South coast of Myconos, as the main harbour is full of trouble and noise. Myconos, indeed, is an extremely touristy busy place, and you do not need here your host for to accompany you.

6th day:

lionsIn the early morning we will sail the very short distance to the neighbour island and visit the ruins of DELOS, the most important mythological and archaeological site in Greece. At midday, while setting sails and slowly cruising in calm waters .agia_annaSouth along the channel between the islands of DELOS and RHINEA, we will have an extended champagne-brunch on board for to celebrate having experienced the very centre of the cradle of our culture. nicolaMooring at the "Potato-Pier" at Ag. Anna, island of NAXOS. The restless ones can do from here a walk along the endless beach. Sunset-dinner at Nicola's Taverna FAROS just a few meters from the pier.

7th day:

Temple_of_Demeter

Visit of the CLOS TZANAKOU. The owner will lead us through his vineyard and invite for a wine degustation with fine little snacks on his terrace, which additionally provides us with just another breathtaking view. From the wine-yard we will drive to the sanctuary of DEMETER, a partly re-erected temple (with the help of the Munich University), interesting to look at, as the fantasy does not have to work as hard as in view of other ancient ruins.

8th day:

kouros_flevioDuring the morning we will have a look at the town-castle of Naxos and then go on to have a look at an archaic unfinished marble-statue, which had cracked during transport from the quarry down to the harbour some 2500 years ago, for to ship it, bound for the sanctuary of Delfi or the Akropolis, we have forgotten, where ... The dropped unfinished statue lies next to a classic well with all the almost as archaic corroded machinery and the meanwhile released to heaven donkey, which drove it on his path round and round the well. We will have a rest there in the shade under the vine-leaves (and think about our lives as a donkey) while getting served refreshments by the owners of the garden.

At late midday we will set sails to stroll down the channel between Naxos and Paros to the small islands of Iraklion, Schinoussa, Denoussa South of Naxos and look around there for a nice bay (according to whether conditions) for the night. Greece_Levitha1

9th day:

Greece_LevithaAnch

Today we will have "a day off". Swimming and relaxing will be our occupation, with just the fish and birds around us and maybe a few civilized - goats. The crew, however, will slave during the afternoon for to prepare a beach-party chez nous (hence we would invite the nosy goats, which had watched us already the whole day long).

10th day:

A morning-swim and a big breakfast will complete our recovery from all these adventurous days we had, before we set sails, bound for SANTORINI. We are in no hurry, as the most impressive moment to sail into the crater of Santorini is at sunset.

800px-Panorama_Oia

oiakraterThe next morning, at the 11th day of our cruise, we visit Oia at the edge of the crater cliffs, of which half the town simply had slipped down into the sea when in 1708 and again in 1866 the volcano became active and popped up two new islets in the middle of the Santorini crater circle. We will go with the speedboat of GOLDEN ARROW to the black, still steaming inner crater, a trip like to the gauge of the Hades (Greek mythology's hell). We will have a look at some excavations. The ashes of the last mayor eruption of the volcano in the 16th century B.C. had covered and thus preserved a whole city with some outstanding fresco paintings of Minoan culture.

In the afternoon we will have a short sail to the island of FOLEGANDROS. In Early evening we take the bus up to the "Chora" of Folegandros (as on the islands all over the Kyklades, the town, called chora, was built on a strategic hilltop above the harbour for to prevent being robbed and raped time and again by pirates) and arrive just in time for another "breathtaking" view from the cliff edge at the entrance of the mono-pedestrian town.

folegandros120px-Fole_abhang43

The following 12th day we will sail onwards to another even bigger, but much longer ago cooled crater (but you never know, it could become active any time again), the island of MILOS. A stroll along the coast with its partly spectacular volcanic rocks and some pool-is-prepared-for-your-bath-madam stopovers will finally lead us to the nearby VATHI bay of neighbour island of SIPHNOS.

23 Vathy_harbour_Greek_island_of_Sifnos

13th day.

After a visit to some traditional potters, nation wide famous for producing their 200 years long same own style of pottery on their foot-driven disc, we are sailing to the private owned islets of PETALI. Golden Arrow will cast anchor in the most sheltered right middle of the group of islets, where a ship-owner's turn of century built white villa is mastering the bay. We can do a short walk to the hilltop above the villa, for to have a look at the quite preserved atrium-house of the island's former owner, a pasha of the Ottoman Empire, have a swim in the turquoise waters and stretch out at the white sand beach of the island's lagoon.

14th day:

After these two weeks of Dionysian Life, we, Host and crew of GOLDEN ARROW, most probably will have to sort of "chase" you back to your normal days duties, and therefore we will sail you straight to the airport (harbour of RAFINA, 15 min. by taxi from departure gate).
